Home Sweet Home..
Close to Uppal, Opposite to Uppal Depot. Big Bus-stop, Beside the Lane of Sai Bakery, Opposite to Sanjana Appartments, about 50 steps from main road, there is our Home Sweet Home. Not some of the latest photos though.. but yeah, it was a sweet memory, struggle for last 1.5 years and the result, we have a small shutter room in the front with a gate and parking lot for 4 cars, G(ground)+2, five 2-BHK appartment oriented houses, roof top pent house, store room and sintex room with open space on the top. It began on 9th March, 2007 when mom and brother with sis and b-i-l starting the stone to get started. The duo, me and my brother with support from mom, started to think of constructing a house of our own from December 2005. Its definitely a dream for many. But thanks to the support of one and all, who helped us go through the hard phase of making it happen. I would whole heartedly attribute this success to my brother who managed multiple dimensions with eternal energy driving unlimited miles, family, relatives, job and construction without leaving any stones unturned. It wouldnt have been possible without my brother. I am really proud to have him as my brother. It was just over alternate weekends that i used to go to bank and take care of the minor loans or take care of house. Rest everything was taken care of my bro. We did not hire a engineer for our site but we hired labor. Brother used to manage getting all the construction material that the labor wanted every-day and on-time and after all the tough times the labor gave us, the long long awaited dream, which was supposed to get over in 6 months stretched due to all-in-all reasons, it came out sweet. I am so happy to see the outcome. Its probably one of the moments i would cherish for a long long time. I was playing a supporting role for my brother in organizing the finance and walking with him on his foot-steps. Constructing a house with an engineer in place and giving it for a Contract is a different scenario in itself. Getting it done, when you are around is a challenge that less can think of, esp people with jobs. Driving almost 50-60 miles daily on bike from home to construction was least that my brother could have expected. Dieing to take rest of the who tiring thing almost every other day. It all happened.
We began to start with the JCB to clear off the whole 2000 sq.ft. land which was a place where you cannot think of walking on the land. Then we had our initial plan in place to construct it as G (Ground floor). Everytime we made a calculation of our budget, we always over shooted. There were many times this finance was a problem hitting from every cornor atleast every 2-3 months. Iron was the major killer initially. With pillers up and ground floor up, having the correct layout in place to extend the pillers up, getting the first roof was a great achievement. There was almost no one from our relatives who monitored it or helped us walk through this complex process but its not a rocket science. Drive to the ring road and look at the sand you like and get the lorry, get concrete, cement, iron a lot lot lot more that you cannot imagine to even think of. I never knew assembling a house could cost so much of patience. We had our 1st floor roof up pretty fast in 20 days. Even though my budget wasnt high, i said ok to my brother for the second floor roof. It came fine pretty fast two, in 20 days. Then there was a delay. We were running short of budget, getting a bank loan was becoming a night mare. My salary was good but bank has so many formalities. Finally got it done. A considerably less amount to repay for 5-years. Money came from all cornors when it ran again, the interiors costed more later. Marble in three floors starting from the ground floor, steps, balconies everywhere its marble. Jet Black Granite in kitchen, Decorative conceptual tiles in bathrooms. Teak wood for the main doors. A Big gate and everything costed. It was sweet to walk with brother everytime to get the plumber material (PVC pipes and TATA Pipes for water). Syntexes were 2500Liters, and 1500Liters capacity. The design of the steps handle was cute. The nuts and bolts of doors, the coloring for the walls, the designs for the windows, fancy Electric switches everywhere, there was no compromise in the quality anywhere. For whatever it is, it has come out good. We had a Watch-man at the location paying him 3000-3500Rs. per month and additional for any work he does at the site. Getting the Electricity wires from the pole, getting water connection, getting house number from muncipality. I spent all of my 10-12 days of my vacation before moving to US in getting the electricity equipment done on site. With Finolex wires costing so high (about 3 lakhs), no one was trustable. The color selection was good. The final polishing wasnt done when i moved to US. But now its all done. We have a pent house on the top and a store room that has space for store and a room that contains the syntex. Its lovely, i miss to see the final leg though. Here is what i have captured it in phases since i knew i had to see how it was.
